Housing instability is the single biggest barrier to everything else we teach. A young person who doesn't know where they're sleeping tonight cannot focus on food cost percentages or business registration.
Housing Education isn't a separate program. It's the foundation that makes every other program possible. We provide direct navigation support, not just referrals to a list of phone numbers.
Housing is central to the Global Bites model because instability in one area often affects everything else. A young person who does not know where they will sleep cannot reasonably be expected to focus on school, employment, health, or long-term planning.
What we actually do
Tenant rights education
Know what your landlord can and can't do. Understand lease terms, security deposits, eviction procedures, and your rights as a renter in California.
Application support
We sit with you and help complete housing applications, including affordable housing lotteries, Section 8, transitional housing programs, and rapid rehousing applications.
Document preparation
Help gathering and organizing the documents most housing applications require: ID, proof of income, rental history, and references.
Phone and email support
We make the calls with you or for you when needed. Navigating housing bureaucracy is hard. You don't have to do it alone.
Emergency resource connection
For young people in immediate need, we connect directly to emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, and crisis support resources in Los Angeles.
Financial readiness for housing
Understanding what landlords look for: credit, income requirements, rental history, and how to build a rental application that gets approved.
Crisis Response and Emergency Services
Global Bites for Kids is intended to be a recognizable place young people can turn when they need immediate help. A participant fleeing violence, trafficking, family conflict, homelessness, or another unsafe situation should be connected to a practical response.
Emergency Shelter and Beds
Global Bites for Kids intends to develop short-term emergency shelter opportunities for eligible youth and young adults who do not have a safe place to stay while a longer-term stabilization plan is arranged.

- Unsafe housing or other qualifying safety concerns
Emergency shelter operations will be implemented in accordance with applicable licensing, age, consent, health, safety, staffing, mandated reporting, and facility requirements.
Immediate Basic Needs
- Showers, towels, hygiene supplies, clean clothing, socks, and undergarments
- Meals, water, snacks, laundry access, and phone charging
- Transportation assistance and help reaching a safe placement
- Crisis assessment, case management, resource navigation, and safety planning
Housing Continuum

Rental Assistance and Eviction Prevention
Depending on funding requirements, assistance may address past-due rent, short or medium-term rent, security and utility deposits, utility arrears, application fees, move-in costs, and emergency lodging. Staff may also provide landlord mediation, budgeting support, benefits navigation, employment assistance, and referrals for housing-related legal services.
Housing Navigation
Housing navigators can assist participants with unit searches, applications, documentation, landlord communication, subsidy requirements, housing interviews, move-in planning, and essential household needs.
Interim and Transitional Housing
When permanent housing is not immediately available, Global Bites for Kids may provide or coordinate bridge housing, transitional living, shared housing, host home models, or other appropriate short-term placements.
Permanent Supportive Housing
Global Bites for Kids intends to develop permanent supportive housing for eligible participants who need long-term housing combined with ongoing services. Support may include affordable housing, rental subsidies, intensive case management, behavioral health connections, benefits assistance, employment services, healthcare coordination, transportation, independent living support, and housing retention services.
